Round 7 Match Report – Gloucester @ Bath on Sunday

Round Seven of the Aviva Premiership was rounded-off by a West-Country derby as Gloucester took on local rivals Bath.

How did it go down?

There was action from the first minute at The Rec as Henry Trinder found a gap in Bath’s defence during the first five minutes. Trinder cut between highly-rated youngster Zach Mercer and Semesa Rokoduguni before finding Willi Heinz in space and running an intelligent dummy line to draw the covering defence and allow the scrumhalf to score in the corner. Round 7 Match Report – Wasps @ Northampton on Saturday

Wasps visited Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday, with the pressure on to end their Premiership losing streak. Northampton have been looking strong but their stock has fallen after two losses in Europe.

How did it go down?

Wasps’ visit to Northampton was a welcome break from the battle of attrition between Sale and Exeter that we saw on Friday night. Wasps narrowly had the better of the early exchanges as they pushed ahead 6-3 before Ben Foden ran back a poor kick and put Ahsee Tuala away after cutting though the Wasps defence. Round 7 Match Report – Exeter @ Sale on Friday Night

How did it go down?

Well, there isn’t a huge amount to write about on this one I’m afraid. The match started at a deadlock and we had to wait until the half-hour mark for Gareth Steenson to kick the first points of the game, but even that didn’t last long as Faf De Klerk hit back four minutes later. Exeter were building pressure through their tight game and it looked like they were going to find a way through, but the Sale defenders were able to hold on time after time and the teams went in at halftime at 3-3. Round Seven Preview – Gloucester @ Bath on Sunday

The weekend’s rugby is rounded off by the first West-country Derby of the year as Gloucester pay a visit to a Bath side who are building some form.

How are they getting on?

Bath have been putting together a decent run of wins, beating much improved Italian side Treviso in what some thought was an unconvincing victory. There was less dissent the following week as they secured an important victory against The Scarlets in Llanelli, confidence will be high as a result. Round 7 Preview – The Non-Televised Games

A quick preview of the non-televised games in Round Seven.

Worcester @ Harlequins

Both teams are far from form, with Harlequins in particular coming off of two disappointing defeats in Europe. Quite why they are so inconsistent is a mystery when you consider the amount of top quality international talent that they have available, Mike Brown, Danny Care, Joe Marler, Chris Robshaw and Jamie Roberts to name a few. Worcester are still sitting at the bottom of the table without a win and have recently had the news that their Director of Rugby, Gary Gold, will be leaving to coach the US national team. Round 7 Preview – Wasps @ Northampton on Saturday Afternoon

After an encouraging victory against Harlequins Wasps travel to Franklin’s Gardens hopeful of a result against a Northampton side coming off of two disappointing losses in Europe.

How are they getting on?

These two have suffered differing fortunes over the European break. Northampton, previously one of the form teams in the league, were brought squarely back to their feet with a repeat of their opening day humiliation at the hands of Saracens. This time the scoreline was even worse although the performance arguably not quite as abject. The result was followed by an away defeat at the hands of Clermont and while European fixtures don’t come tougher than these two, it was a stark reminder of where Northampton currently sit at the table.

Round 7 Preview – Friday Night Game – Exeter Chiefs @ Sale Sharks

The first game after the European break will see a confident looking Exeter Chiefs travel to the AJ Bell to take on Sale Sharks

How are they getting on so far?

Exeter Chiefs had a great couple of rounds in the Champions Cup during the Premiership break, managing to beat Glasgow at Sandy Park followed by a fantastic victory against Montpellier in Montpellier. They will take a lot of momentum from their European success and it is beginning to look like they are hitting top form.
