Round 9 Match Report – Exeter @ Saracens

The game of the weekend saw champions Exeter visit Saracens at Allainz Park for a sneak preview of the playoffs.

How did it go down?

Exeter were the first off the mark as Gareth Steenson kicked three points but Saracens responded almost immediately. Nathan Earle collected a high ball and fed Alex Goode who drew in the defence before giving the ball back to Earle on the nearside wing. Earle haired into the space before passing back to Goode who ran it into the corner putting the early score at 7-3. Continue reading “Round 9 Match Report – Exeter @ Saracens”

Round 9 Match Report – Gloucester @ Newcastle

On the back of a morale boosting victory against Saracens, Gloucester made the tough trip up to Newcastle on Friday Night to see if they could back it up.

How did it go down?

Gloucester opened the scoring sixteen minutes in after Willi Heinz took the ball from a lineout and fed young winger Henry Purdy, who cut against the direction of play and through the Gloucester defence before being stopped by a last-ditch ankle tap from Sinoti Sinoti. Round 7 Match Report – Gloucester @ Bath on Sunday

Round Seven of the Aviva Premiership was rounded-off by a West-Country derby as Gloucester took on local rivals Bath.

How did it go down?

There was action from the first minute at The Rec as Henry Trinder found a gap in Bath’s defence during the first five minutes. Trinder cut between highly-rated youngster Zach Mercer and Semesa Rokoduguni before finding Willi Heinz in space and running an intelligent dummy line to draw the covering defence and allow the scrumhalf to score in the corner. Round 7 Match Report – Wasps @ Northampton on Saturday

Wasps visited Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday, with the pressure on to end their Premiership losing streak. Northampton have been looking strong but their stock has fallen after two losses in Europe.

How did it go down?

Wasps’ visit to Northampton was a welcome break from the battle of attrition between Sale and Exeter that we saw on Friday night. Wasps narrowly had the better of the early exchanges as they pushed ahead 6-3 before Ben Foden ran back a poor kick and put Ahsee Tuala away after cutting though the Wasps defence. Round 7 Match Report – Exeter @ Sale on Friday Night

How did it go down?

Well, there isn’t a huge amount to write about on this one I’m afraid. The match started at a deadlock and we had to wait until the half-hour mark for Gareth Steenson to kick the first points of the game, but even that didn’t last long as Faf De Klerk hit back four minutes later. Exeter were building pressure through their tight game and it looked like they were going to find a way through, but the Sale defenders were able to hold on time after time and the teams went in at halftime at 3-3. Round 6 Round-Up – The Non-Televised Games

A quick round-up of Week Six’s non-televised games.

Worcester @ Bath

What was the score? 29-13 to Bath.

Anything of note? On the surface of things not really. Youngster Zach Mercer made a great run to set up a try and with England short on number eights this autumn he may well be fast-tracked into the squad. Ben Tapuai went down with an injury which will concern Bath as he is an important cog in their team. Continue reading “Round 6 Round-Up – The Non-Televised Games”

Round 6 Match Report – Wasps @ Saracens on Sunday

Round Six saw two of the ‘Big Three’ from 16/17 go head-to-head as struggling Wasps traveled to Allainz Park to take on Saracens.

How did it go down?

Saracens started well against an injury depleted Wasps. Fullback Alex Goode entered the line and collected the ball from Marcelo Bosch in the sixth minute before weighting an intelligent kick for American Chris Wyles to go collect in the corner for the score. Five minutes later British & Irish Lion Jamie George cut a line from a quick tap to stroll through a Wasps defence that had switched off to put Saracens two tries up.
